OH: Animal Neglect Case in Columbiana County
OH: Animal Neglect Case in Columbiana County
Humane agents removed 15 dogs from a South Egypt Road residence in Salem township Tuesday morning. All were Australian Shepards that mostly lived in outdoor pens. This follows over a year of efforts by agents to get the owner to improve living conditions for the animals. Ten dogs were removed previously. The owner may face up to 15 charges of animal neglect. Police believe he was breeding the dogs. They will all be placed in foster care. The investigation remains ongoing.
More details here and on our broadcasts as they become available.

Dogs Removed From Salem Home

Over the last year and a half, the Columbiana County Humane Society received numerous phone calls and complaints regarding the dogs living at 126 South Egypt Road in Salem Township.
Bill Logsdon raises Australian Shepherds, but humane agents said his dogs were not living in suitable conditions.
"We get a lot of animal complaints in our jurisdiction but this one was concerning," said Salem Chief Dan Valentine.
He assisted the agents as they rescued seven dogs from inside the home Tuesday. The remaining eight lived in outside pens. The chief said many of the animals did not have adequate food, water or bedding.
When asked to comment on the case the dogs' owner declined the offer. But he did say this isn't the first time the humane society visited his property.
Back in August they removed 10 dogs.
"They've tried in the past to work with him," said Valentine. "To get him to come into compliance with proper caring of his animals. And as a last resort when they can't care for the animals they have to remove them."
And if you notice signs of animal abuse or neglect in your neighborhood, police recommend calling the authorities.
"Anytime you have an animal or pet complaint like that we always encourage people, if you're concerned about something call we'll investigate it," said Valentine.
As the investigation into Logdson continues, his dogs Tuesday were at a foster facility. He faces 15 charges of animal neglect.
