MOBILE, Ala. -- What started as a search for illegal drugs in the Happy Hill neighborhood by Mobile County sheriff's deputies Wednesday ended with three men arrested on dog fighting charges, sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Myles said.

Jesse Ree Dixon Jr., 43, was charged with dog fighting, second-degree marijuana possession and use and possession of drug paeraphernalia after deputies discovered that a room inside his home at 751 Dr. Thomas St. had been converted into a dog fighting ring, according to Myles.

Danjelo Tate, were also charged with dog fighting, Myles said.

She said the deputies discovered pit bull terriers that had wounds consistent with dog fighting, and blood was visible in the room used to stage the fights. Myles was unsure how many dogs were confiscated, but they were taken to the city of Mobile animal shelter.

Jamar Tate was released on $3,000 bail, according to records at Mobile County Metro Jail. George Tate and Dixon were in Metro Jail today, records show, with George Tate's bail set at $3,000 and Dixon's set at $4,000.
